LABORERS OF THE HARVEST

The simple truth is that without the volunteer effort of the people from Shar-On, many Taft families would go hungry.

Every month, Laborers of the Harvest distributes literally tons of food to an increasingly hungry community.  This requires a huge amount of time to collect, organize, pack, distribute, and clean up.  The result is thousands of Taft residents receiving food that they desperately need.

The hundreds of hours of volunteer labor come primarily from members of the Shar-On community.

CLEAN UP

GIVING JUST TO GIVE.  THAT'S THE DOING GOOD FOR NOTHING (DGIF) TEAM

Our DGFN Team is made up of individuals in our Shar-On community who have enjoyed the consistent kindness and now are confident that they will not go hungry due to the Sandwich Social meal program.

They give back to the larger, overall Taft community through cleaning up areas around town that need some TLC.

Wanting to give back is natural when you are treated with respect and you have been shown that your life matters.

SANDWICH SOCIAL

Every night we prepare a delicious, home-cooked dinner for 40-100 people.  The food and labor are all volunteers.  It is almost always prepared and distributed by people who once stood in line to receive the meal.

Our Sandwich Social, which has gone far beyond sandwiches, is the backbone and primary program at Shar-On.

COMMUNITY

Shar-On is not a soup kitchen.  It is a collective of very special people who come together

to support each other and the community they live in.

Our collective gives back to the people of Taft in a number of ways.

They work together, respect one another, and hold each other accountable.

It’s a collective built on mutual respect and love.
